Deputy Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) John Rabuku has submitted an application to the High Court in Lautoka to revoke the bail granted to Justin Ho, a key suspect in the large-scale importation and possession of 4.15 tonnes of methamphetamine. Ho, along with eight other accused individuals, is alleged to have committed these offenses between November 2024 and January 2025 in Legalega, Nadi.
Ho was apprehended off the coast of Momi while attempting to flee to New Zealand. Following his arrest, he was taken to the Nadi Police Station and remanded in custody, effectively revoking his bail. Rabuku explained outside the court that Ho violated his bail conditions by leaving the Lautoka jurisdiction, which is a significant factor in the decision to revoke his bail.
The court proceedings for this case included a pretrial conference hearing where further matters will be addressed. Mr. Rabuku stated that by June 1, there will be additional pretrial discussions, with the trial expected to commence from June 3 to June 28.
This situation presents an important moment for the judicial system in Fiji. The actions taken by law enforcement and the DPP demonstrate a robust commitment to combating drug trafficking and ensuring that individuals involved in serious criminal activities face appropriate legal consequences. As public safety remains a critical concern, the court’s measures reflect a diligent approach to tackling these grave allegations.
In observing such legal proceedings, it’s important to remain hopeful that they will lead to a more secure community, demonstrating the judiciary’s dedication not only to upholding justice but also to maintaining the integrity of the legal process against drug-related offenses.
