Michael J. Fox, alongside fellow stars of the iconic film “Back to the Future,” has reached out to the public for assistance in locating the famous red Gibson ES-345 Cherry Red guitar that featured prominently in the film. This guitar became a symbol of the vibrant music scene portrayed in the 1985 classic when Fox’s character, Marty McFly, electrified an audience with his guitar riffs during a high school dance.

The guitar mysteriously vanished after filming concluded, and in a lighthearted plea for help, Fox humorously remarked, “It’s somewhere lost in the space-time continuum, or it’s in some Teamster’s garage.” Fans of the film are encouraged to aid in the search, with co-stars Lea Thompson, Christopher Lloyd, and Harry Waters Jr. joining Fox in the appeal. Musician Huey Lewis, whose song “The Power of Love” is a highlight in the movie, has also lent his voice to the effort.

The guitar’s story is being documented in a new film titled “Lost to the Future,” directed by Gibson, which aims to chronicle the search for this beloved piece of cinematic history. As a part of the promotion, Gibson plans to reissue the ES-345 Cherry Red model in October, propelling interest in both the guitar and the film.

Fans can share any tips regarding the guitar’s location via the newly launched website www.losttothefuture.com.

The collaborative spirit exhibited by the stars reflects a devoted community that continues to celebrate the legacy of “Back to the Future.” The upcoming reissue of the guitar and the documentary about its search suggest that the film’s influence endures, resonating with both new audiences and long-time fans alike.
