Payments for the $200 Back-to-School Assistance program are set to begin this afternoon and will extend through the weekend. This initiative is aimed at supporting students as they prepare for the 2026 academic year, particularly those in Year 12 and Year 13. Payments will be issued once the enrollments for the upcoming school year are confirmed.

So far, the program has received a total of 204,872 applications, with approximately 185,000 students expected to receive their payments in this initial disbursement, which is estimated to total around $37 million. However, there are about 10,000 applications pending verification due to incomplete or inaccurate information.

Parents and guardians who do not see the payment reflected by Monday are encouraged to reach out for assistance through the Ministry of Education District Offices or the Help Desk located at Waisomo House. Contact numbers for the Help Desk include 3220551, 3314477, 9980079, and 9986069.

In an effort to ensure the aid is utilized effectively, parents are urged to allocate the funds strictly for educational purposes. The government is actively monitoring prices to prevent any price gouging that may take advantage of this assistance program.

The government reaffirmed its commitment to supporting families and ensuring that students have a smooth transition into the new school year. This initiative is seen as a significant step in bolstering educational resources and facilitating a successful start for students across the nation.
