Ba Rugby Union director Filimoni Delasau has expressed pride in his young team’s performance despite a 35-13 loss to Suva on Saturday at the redeveloped Four R Stadium. Delasau acknowledged the challenging nature of the matchup, noting that while Suva has been a dominant force in the competition for over 50 years, Ba is still building its foundation in only its second year of the Skipper Cup.
The match held special significance for the Ba rugby community, as it marked the return of Suva to Ba for the first time in over 30 years. Delasau reminisced about watching great players like Tomasi Lovo and Mosese Taga during his childhood, and he was heartened to see a large crowd gather to witness the match. “It’s amazing to see the number of fans that turned up… It was a good game,” he remarked.
While Suva demonstrated their experience and strength as champions throughout the match, Delasau maintained a positive outlook on Ba’s development, stating that most players were making their debuts. “We believe this is just the beginning, and we are proud of our boys,” he added.
Looking ahead, Delasau confirmed that the team would regroup to assess their performance and work on identified weaknesses, emphasizing a commitment to continuous improvement. The community’s response, with strong support witnessed at the stadium, reflects the growing enthusiasm for rugby in the area, signaling a hopeful future for Ba Rugby as they strive to establish themselves in the competitive landscape of Fijian rugby.
Additionally, the successful reopening of the Four R Stadium provides a renewed sense of pride and a positive environment for local fans and players alike, suggesting that with ongoing support and hard work, Ba Rugby Union can achieve their goals in the upcoming season.
