The Ba Rugby Union has officially appointed Ben Tora as the new head coach for the upcoming domestic rugby competition. This confirmation was announced by Gabby Kautoga, the secretary of the Ba Rugby Union, who mentioned that Tora takes over from Vilimoni Delasau, a former star winger for the Flying Fijians. Due to ongoing struggles with previous injuries, Delasau has transitioned to become a Ba Rugby ambassador but will still support the team in various capacities.

Kautoga elaborated that Tora went through a comprehensive interview process before his appointment was finalized. In addition to Tora’s new role, Waisale Tikomailepanoni has been appointed as the head coach for the Ba women’s rugby team, while Josaia Tuwai will continue in his position as the head coach for the Ba Under-20 team.

During a recent Special General Meeting, Kautoga shared insights into the Ba Rugby Union’s plans for the future, revealing a backup strategy for their club games should the Fiji Rugby Union decide to shift the Skipper Cup competition start date to August next year. He expressed hopes for raising the overall standards of rugby and improving club-level administration, with plans to expand the number of affiliated clubs from 32 to 40 next year.

Kautoga emphasized the importance of improved administrative practices within the clubs, particularly focusing on better management of team lists, registration, and on-the-day organization during game events. He recognized the significant progress made thus far but pointed out the necessity for ongoing improvements to ensure continued success.

Looking ahead, the Ba Rugby Union aims to maintain its position in the Skipper Cup competition and strive for a top five finish. Kautoga remarked that their previous goal of reaching the top eight was achieved, allowing them to avoid relegation. The ambitious goal for the upcoming season includes competing for the prestigious Farebrother Trophy, reflecting the Union’s commitment to elevating their game.

This development brings a sense of optimism for the Ba Rugby Union as they prepare for the future, with dedicated leadership and a clear vision for growth and enhancement in their rugby programs.

Summary: The Ba Rugby Union has appointed Ben Tora as head coach, replacing Vilimoni Delasau, who will still support the team in an ambassadorial role. As part of their strategy for improvement, the Union plans to expand its clubs and enhance administrative practices. Their goals for the coming season include maintaining a spot in the Skipper Cup while aiming for a top five finish and competing for the Farebrother Trophy. These changes signal positive progress for the Ba Rugby Union as they look to elevate their standards and performance.
