Azariah Soromon is back in Suva, and the Vanuatu United FC forward says he has come with one clear mission: help his new club secure the points it needs in the OFC Pro League group round ahead of the finals next month. Soromon, a familiar face to Suva supporters after a stint with Suva District three years ago, arrives at HFC Bank Stadium ahead of Vanuatu United’s opening match against South Island United at 3pm tomorrow.

“It’s a good feeling to be back in my hometown,” Soromon said, reflecting on his return to Suva. The forward singled out a late 2023 encounter between Suva and Rewa at the same venue as one of his fondest memories — the match that secured Suva’s qualification for continental competition. “That game stands out as my best memory here,” he added, underlining how well he knows the pitch and the local atmosphere.

Now wearing Vanuatu United colours, Soromon has set pragmatic goals for the short trip. “My aim is to help the team secure the points we need this round before the finals next month,” he said, emphasising the importance of collecting results early in the campaign. His arrival is timed to give the squad every advantage: the team came to Suva ahead of the fixture to settle in and acclimatise to local conditions.

Soromon acknowledged the challenge posed by tomorrow’s opponents but expressed confidence in his teammates. “It’s going to be a tough game, but the boys are prepared and excited,” he said. Vanuatu United will be looking to convert that preparation into a positive result at HFC Bank Stadium, a venue Soromon knows well from his time with Suva District.

Ahead of kickoff, Soromon issued a direct plea to the home crowd, asking Suva supporters to turn out and bolster the team’s chances. “You’re the 12th man on the field. Please come out in numbers this weekend and support the boys,” he said, pointing to the impact a vocal crowd can have on a tightly contested regional fixture.

Tomorrow’s match is the first of Vanuatu United’s fixtures in this round of the OFC Pro League, and the result will influence their push toward a place in the finals next month. With Soromon’s experience in Fiji and his recent move to Vanuatu United, coaches and fans will be keen to see whether his familiarity with Suva’s conditions and his attacking qualities translate into the crucial points the club is chasing.

Soromon’s return to Suva highlights the growing cross‑island movement of players within the Pacific club scene, and his performance at HFC Bank Stadium will be watched closely by supporters on both islands as the regional campaign unfolds.
