Defending champions Army Green are gearing up to defend their title at the Fiji Bitter Marist 7s tournament, which starts tomorrow at 7 am at the HFC Bank Stadium in Suva. This year’s tournament represents the final leg of the Fiji Bitter 7s Series and is expected to attract over 95 teams, comprising more than 1,500 players.
Team captain Inia Tawalo expressed confidence as they prepare for the challenges ahead. He acknowledged the tough competition they will face, stating, “We have a huge task ahead of us for this tournament, but we are ready to give our all. We’ve been talking together as a team…and we will be treating all our matches like our final match.” Tawalo also noted that other teams will be eager to dethrone the champions, yet he remains optimistic about Army Green’s preparation for the tournament.
The Marist 7s will see participation from both familiar and new faces in the rugby community, including teams like Bula Bay Blue and Mana Magicians. This tournament follows the recent Nawaka 7s, where Army Green faced considerable challenges but emerged victorious.
The anticipation from the rugby community is palpable as fans look forward to a weekend filled with thrilling matches featuring seasoned players and up-and-coming talent. The Marist 7s serve not only as a competitive platform but also emphasize grassroots rugby and community involvement in sports.
With their dedication and commitment, the Army Green team aims to achieve victory and inspire the next generation of athletes while upholding Fiji’s rich rugby tradition. The Marist 7s promises a weekend filled with athleticism, teamwork, and the enduring spirit of Fijian rugby as teams vie for glory on the pitch.
