A heavy rain alert remains in force for the entire Fiji group as an active trough of low pressure lies over the islands, bringing widespread cloud, showers and periods of heavy rain. The National Weather Forecasting Centre in Nadi issued the bulletin at 5:30am on Saturday the 4th of April 2026. A north to northeast wind flow prevails, and conditions are expected to remain unsettled through tonight and into Sunday.
Through to midnight tonight most places can expect occasional rain, heavy at times, with a few thunderstorms possible. Localised heavy falls may lead to flash flooding in low-lying areas. Winds will be moderate to fresh from the north to northeast, and seas are forecast to be moderate to rough around the group.
The outlook for Sunday remains similar, with occasional rain heavy at times and isolated thunderstorms over most places. Temperatures will be warm and humid — many interior and coastal towns are forecast lows around 24°C with daytime highs mostly near 30–31°C. Nadi, Lautoka and Ba can expect the highest daytime maximum around 33°C today; Sigatoka and some western areas may reach about 32°C. The eastern districts and outer islands are likewise expecting frequent showers and storms with comparable minimums and daytime temperatures.
Rotuma is under a separate strong wind warning. Over land, northeasterly winds may reach up to 45 km/h with gusts to 55 km/h. Over surrounding waters, winds are expected 20 to 25 knots, gusting to 30 knots, with rough seas. Rotuma will also see occasional heavy rain and thunderstorms; the warning and harbour/sea conditions are expected to persist into Sunday.
Communities in low-lying and flood-prone areas should be alert to the potential for rapid runoff and flash flooding, and marine users should be prepared for rough conditions. For updates and any special advisories, consult the National Weather Forecasting Centre at https://www.met.gov.fj/alerts/.
