April 28, 2026: Fiji Braces for Cloudy Intervals, Brief Showers and Isolated Thunderstorms Across Interior and Eastern Islands as Southeast Winds Strengthen

Fiji road surrounded by green mountains, wet from rain, under cloudy sky.

A moist east to southeast wind flow will keep much of Fiji under cloudy skies with brief showers, with the greatest chance of rain and isolated thunderstorms across interior and eastern parts of the larger islands, the Lau and Lomaiviti groups, Kadavu and nearby smaller islands. Elsewhere conditions will be mostly fine with only isolated afternoon or evening showers. Winds are moderate from the east to southeast, becoming predominantly southeast later, and seas are moderate.

Through to midnight tonight, areas most likely to see clouds, short-lived heavy showers and isolated thunderstorms include Serua, Namosi, Naitasiri, Ra, Suva–Nausori–Tailevu North, Cakaudrove, southern Bua and eastern Macuata provinces, along with the Lau and Lomaiviti groups and Kadavu. In those locations expect intermittent wet spells and pockets of thunder, while western and northern coastal districts should generally remain dry apart from the chance of an isolated shower late in the day.

The outlook for Wednesday remains similar for the same interior and eastern districts, with cloudy periods and brief showers persisting. Winds are expected to freshen from the southeast and seas will increase to moderate to rough, so marine conditions will be less settled than today. Coastal users and small craft operators should take the stronger winds and choppier water into account when planning activities.

Local centres: Navua, Suva and Nausori will see cloudy periods with brief showers and isolated thunderstorms, with temperatures around a minimum of 23°C and a maximum near 30°C today (rising to about 31°C on Wednesday). Nadi, Lautoka and Ba will be fine apart from isolated afternoon or evening showers, with lows near 23°C and highs around 31–32°C. Yasawa and the Mamanuca islands, as well as the Coral Coast and Sigatoka, will be partly cloudy with isolated afternoon or evening showers and daytime highs near 31°C. Labasa, Savusavu, Nabouwalu, Taveuni, and the Lau and Lomaiviti groups are expected to have cloudy periods with brief showers and similar temperature ranges overnight into the day.

Rotuma will experience an easterly wind flow with cloudy periods and some showers, moderate easterly winds and moderate seas. Temperatures there are forecast around a minimum of 23°C and a maximum near 31°C today, increasing slightly on Wednesday.
