A trough of low pressure is affecting the eastern and northern parts of Fiji, bringing cloud, frequent showers and isolated thunderstorms to those areas while an east to northeast wind flow prevails across the group. Moderate to fresh east to northeast winds and moderate to rough seas will accompany the unsettled conditions.
Through tonight, occasional showers and isolated thunderstorms are expected over eastern and interior parts of Viti Levu — including areas from Ra–Rakiraki, the interior of Ba and Ra, Nadroga/Navosa, interior Serua–Namosi and northern Tailevu, coastal Serua–Namosi and the greater Navua–Suva–Nausori area — as well as the Lau and Lomaiviti groups, Kadavu and nearby smaller islands. Cloudy periods with some showers and isolated heavy falls are likely about Sigatoka–Korolevu, southern Bua and Cakaudrove provinces. Elsewhere conditions will generally be fine apart from afternoon or evening showers and isolated thunderstorms. Localised heavy falls may lead to flash flooding of low-lying and flood-prone areas.
Local town forecasts reflect this mix of sun and showers. Navua, Suva and Nausori should expect occasional showers and isolated thunderstorms with temperatures around 23 to 30°C. Nadi, Lautoka and Ba will be mostly fine apart from afternoon or evening showers and thunderstorms with daytime highs near 33°C. Sigatoka and the Coral Coast will see cloudy periods with some showers and possible isolated heavy falls, highs around 32°C. Tavua and Rakiraki, Labasa, Savusavu, Nabouwalu, Taveuni, the Lau and Lomaiviti groups, and Kadavu will generally have a combination of showers and isolated thunderstorms, with minimums near 23°C and daytime highs mostly in the low 30s.
The outlook for Thursday continues the risk of heavier falls in pockets of the eastern and northern islands. Occasional showers and isolated heavy falls are expected over Serua–Namosi, Navua–Suva–Nausori, Tailevu–Naitasiri–Ra, eastern Macuata, Cakaudrove, Taveuni and nearby smaller islands, as well as the Lau and Lomaiviti groups and Kadavu. Much of Viti Levu and Vanua Levu can expect afternoon or evening thunderstorms with heavy falls. Again, localised heavy falls may produce flash flooding in low-lying and flood-prone locations.
Rotuma remains under a weak trough with cloudy periods, some showers and isolated thunderstorms. Moderate to fresh easterly winds and moderate to rough seas are expected there. Temperatures on Rotuma will range about 24 to 32°C, and the island should see occasional showers and isolated thunderstorms into Thursday.
