An easterly wind flow prevails over Fiji, with a weak trough of low pressure expected to affect the eastern parts of the country from later tomorrow. This pattern will bring cloudy periods and showers, with isolated heavy falls for several eastern and central districts, while most other areas can expect mainly fine weather apart from afternoon or evening showers and thunderstorms.
Cloudy periods with some showers and isolated heavy falls are expected through to midnight tomorrow for Serua‑Namosi, Navua‑Suva‑Nausori, Tailevu‑Naitasiri‑Ra, Southern Bua, Eastern Macuata, Cakaudrove, the Lau and Lomaiviti groups, Kadavu and nearby smaller islands. Elsewhere conditions will be generally fine aside from the usual afternoon or evening showers; afternoon or evening thunderstorms are likely over Viti Levu and Vanua Levu.
Winds will be moderate to fresh from the east, and seas are expected to be moderate to rough. Rotuma remains under the influence of a weak trough with associated cloud and showers — cloudy periods with showers and isolated thunderstorms are forecast there, with moderate to fresh northeasterly winds and moderate to rough seas. Temperatures around the main centres will be in the low 20s to low 30s Celsius.
Local area notes: Navua, Suva and Nausori can expect cloudy periods with showers and isolated heavy falls, and possible afternoon or evening thunderstorms (tomorrow 23–31°C; Wednesday 22–31°C). The Yasawa and Mamanuca groups are mainly fine (23–31°C), while the Sigatoka and Coral Coast area is fine apart from afternoon or evening showers and thunderstorms (23–32°C). Nadi, Lautoka and Ba, as well as Tavua, Rakiraki and Labasa, will be generally fine apart from afternoon or evening showers and thunderstorms with daytime highs up to 33°C; heavier falls are possible there on Wednesday. Savusavu, Nabouwalu, Taveuni, the Lau and Lomaiviti groups, and Kadavu are likely to see cloudy periods with showers and isolated heavy falls and the chance of afternoon or evening thunderstorms, with overnight lows around 22–23°C and daytime highs near 30–31°C.
The outlook for Wednesday remains much the same: cloudy periods with showers and isolated heavy falls persisting in the eastern and some central districts, and afternoon or evening thunderstorms likely over Viti Levu and Vanua Levu. With moderate to fresh easterly winds and moderate to rough seas forecast, people planning outdoor activities or marine travel in affected areas should be aware of the potential for sudden heavy downpours and rougher sea conditions.
