A trough of low pressure, bringing cloud and showers, is affecting northern and eastern parts of Fiji while a northeasterly wind flow predominates over the group. The trough will continue to produce occasional showers and isolated thunderstorms in the north and island groups, with the eastern and interior areas of Viti Levu expecting cloudy periods and isolated afternoon or evening thunderstorms capable of heavy falls. Winds will be moderate northeasterly for much of the day before gradually shifting to an east to southeasterly direction from later today. Seas are moderate now but are forecast to become moderate to rough from later today.
The eastern and interior parts of Viti Levu — including Tavua–Vatukoula, Ra–Rakiraki, interior Ra–Ba–Nadroga/Navosa, interior Serua–Namosi/Naitasiri, the Greater Suva/Nausori–Tailevu area, Sigatoka–Korolevu and the Coral Coast to Navua — can expect cloudy periods with showers and isolated afternoon or evening thunderstorms, with heavy falls likely in these locations. For the Navua/Suva/Nausori area, the forecast today’s maximum is 31°C with an overnight low around 23°C and a daytime high around 32°C tomorrow; similar conditions are expected on Tuesday with cloudy periods and some showers.
Northern towns and island groups will see more frequent showers. Labasa, Savusavu, Nabouwalu and Taveuni are forecast to experience occasional showers and isolated thunderstorms, with isolated heavy falls possible. The Yasawa group will have occasional showers and isolated thunderstorms while the Mamanuca group may see afternoon or evening showers and thunderstorms with heavy falls. Lau and Lomaiviti are expecting occasional showers and a few thunderstorms with isolated heavy falls; Kadavu should be mostly fine apart from possible afternoon or evening showers and thunderstorms. Temperatures across these areas remain in the low 30s Celsius by day and low-to-mid 20s by night.
The western corridor — Nadi, Lautoka and Ba — is expected to be generally fine apart from the risk of afternoon or evening showers and thunderstorms with heavy falls; maximums near 32–33°C. Sigatoka and the Coral Coast have cloudy periods with afternoon or evening showers and thunderstorms and heavy falls. Tavua and Rakiraki are similarly set for cloudy periods with showers and afternoon or evening thunderstorms that may produce heavy falls. Outlooks for Tuesday indicate most districts will see improvement to mainly fine conditions except for the eastern and interior areas which remain more unsettled.
At sea and for mariners, moderate northeasterly winds will become east to southeast later today and seas are forecast to increase from moderate to moderate-to-rough from later today; small craft and coastal operators should take this into account. Rotuma remains under the influence of a weak trough with cloudy periods, some showers and possible thunderstorms, moderate to fresh northeasterly winds and moderate to rough seas. The outlook for Tuesday: cloudy periods with some showers and isolated thunderstorms over eastern and interior Viti Levu, Lau and Lomaiviti, southern Bua and Cakaudrove provinces, and Kadavu and nearby smaller islands; elsewhere mainly fine apart from the usual afternoon or evening showers and isolated thunderstorms.
