A westerly wind flow prevails over Fiji today, with a trough of low pressure expected to affect the islands from the north later in the day. For the remainder of today, much of the group will see mainly fine weather with isolated afternoon or evening showers, while the southwestern parts of Viti Levu (Momi, Nadroga/Navosa and Serua Namosi), Kadavu, nearby small islands and the Lau group can expect cloudy periods with brief showers. Occasional showers and isolated thunderstorms are likely to develop later today over Vanua Levu, Taveuni and nearby smaller islands, and over parts of the Lau and Lomaiviti groups.
Winds are forecast to be moderate to fresh from the northwest today, with seas moderate to rough across the group. Conditions are expected to change into Saturday as northerly winds strengthen to moderate to fresh. Occasional showers and a few thunderstorms with isolated heavy falls are forecast for the Northern Division, Lau and Lomaiviti groups and the interior and northeastern areas of Viti Levu (Rakiraki–Tailevu North, Nausori–Suva–Lami and Naitasiri). Elsewhere on Saturday, skies will be partly cloudy with the chance of afternoon or evening showers and possible isolated thunderstorms; seas remain moderate to rough.
Local area details: Navua, Suva and Nausori will see cloudy periods with brief showers today, with temperatures near 23°C to 31°C; on Saturday expect occasional showers and a few thunderstorms with isolated heavy falls (min 22°C, max 31°C). Natadradave and Korovou are mainly fine apart from isolated afternoon or evening showers (23–31°C) but may see occasional showers and a few thunderstorms with isolated heavy falls on Saturday (23–29°C). Nadi, Lautoka and Ba, as well as Yasawa and the Mamanuca group, remain mostly fine today with isolated showers; temperatures are in the low 20s to about 31–32°C and Saturday brings partly cloudy conditions with a chance of afternoon or evening showers and isolated thunderstorms.
In the north and outer islands, Labasa, Savusavu, Nabouwalu, Taveuni and much of the Lau and Lomaiviti groups will have cloudy periods with brief showers today and showers becoming more frequent from later tomorrow. These locations are expected to see occasional showers and a few thunderstorms with isolated heavy falls on Saturday, with daytime highs around 29–30°C and overnight lows near 23–24°C. Kadavu has cloudy periods with brief showers today (23–30°C) and a Saturday forecast of partly cloudy conditions with afternoon or evening showers and possible isolated thunderstorms.
Rotuma continues to be affected by a trough of low pressure with associated cloud and showers. Expect occasional showers and isolated thunderstorms there, with moderate to fresh east to northwesterly winds and moderate to rough seas; temperatures around 23–30°C and some showers continuing into Saturday (min 24°C, max 30°C). Across the group, sea conditions and freshening winds mean coastal and small-boat operators should take care, and communities in northern and eastern areas should be prepared for periods of heavier rain and isolated thunderstorms that may produce locally heavy falls.
