The Government of Vanuatu has granted a Foreign Air Operator Certificate (FAOC) to Australia’s Alliance Airlines, marking a new era in the nation’s air travel industry. This decision comes from the Ministry of Infrastructure and Public Utilities and the Civil Aviation Authority of Vanuatu (CAAV), following the recent liquidation of Air Vanuatu. With this move, travelers in Vanuatu will now have more options, complementing the existing services provided by Qantas and Jetstar.
Wilfred Makaba, Acting Director of CAAV, confirmed that Alliance Airlines is set to begin operations on the 30th of this month, with their inaugural flight scheduled to arrive in Vanuatu at 2:10 PM. The airline will operate smaller Embraer aircraft, offering flexibility for routes that do not require larger planes and effectively serving as an alternative to Qantas on specific journeys.
The FAOC issued to Alliance Airlines is valid for a duration of 12 months, similar to those granted to its rivals Qantas and Jetstar. The partnership between these airlines has been bolstered since Qantas acquired a nearly 20 percent stake in Alliance Aviation Services back in February 2019, which has allowed for improved operational synergies. Although a proposed full acquisition was blocked by the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC), the collaboration continues to enhance passenger services.
Known for its efficient charter services primarily catering to the resource industry, Alliance Airlines also has a reputation for reliability, especially in transporting personnel to remote areas. The airline’s services extend to meet various travel needs, encompassing corporate events and sports teams, while strictly adhering to safety and regulatory requirements.
The introduction of Alliance Airlines into Vanuatu’s aviation landscape is expected to not only boost tourism but also enhance regional connectivity. This initiative showcases a partnership aimed at revitalizing air travel options, bringing optimism for the future of Vanuatu’s tourism and transportation sectors. The addition of Alliance Airlines symbolizes a commitment to strengthening Vanuatu’s connection with international travel, fostering economic growth, and aiding the community’s recovery from previous adversities.
