A recent review by the Ministry of Employment, Productivity, and Workplace Relations has identified violations concerning the minimum employment terms and health and safety regulations at Grace Road Company (GRC) across Viti Levu. Minister Agni Deo Singh pointed out that the inspection uncovered breaches of the Employment Relations Act 2007 and the Health and Safety at Work Act 1996.

In light of the findings, the Ministry plans to undertake further investigations into the flagged issues. Singh emphasized that the laws in Fiji are applicable to both local and migrant workers, reinforcing the Ministry’s commitment to ensure all employers comply with employment regulations.

Singh urged GRC to align with legal requirements and ensure that all workers receive their rightful wages and entitlements. The hope is that this increased oversight and commitment to compliance will lead to a safer and more equitable working environment for all employees.

In summary, while breaches have been identified, the proactive stance of the Ministry suggests a positive direction towards improving workplace conditions. This could foster a more just and secure work atmosphere for both local and migrant laborers in the region.
