Ajay Balu has been appointed as Fiji’s Chef de Mission for the remainder of the current quadrennial, taking a pivotal role in leading the country’s delegations to prominent multi-sport events. The announcement was made by Vanessa Kilner, the Chief Executive Officer of the Fiji Association of Sports and National Olympic Committee (FASANOC), emphasizing Balu’s extensive experience and leadership skills.

Balu will guide Team Fiji through significant competitions, including the 2026 Commonwealth Games and the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles. His previous role as Chef de Mission during the recent Pacific Games demonstrated his capability, as he successfully managed a record delegation of nearly 500 athletes and officials, showcasing his effectiveness in this capacity.

Kilner remarked on Balu’s deep-rooted connections within the sporting community, particularly in archery, and stressed the importance of his leadership experience for FASANOC’s strategic plans moving forward. The organization is focused on not only enhancing athlete performance but also on fostering leadership among emerging team leaders.
