Assistant Agriculture Minister Tomasi Tunabuna has highlighted that certain districts are still lacking sufficient human resources. He pointed out that while these areas have the necessary infrastructure and machinery, the shortage of staff could hinder their ability to meet current agricultural production challenges.

To address this issue, Mr. Tunabuna mentioned that the ministry is working on strategies to retain personnel, particularly surveyors and engineers. He acknowledged ongoing difficulties with staff migration to overseas positions.

“We are conducting short training programs to enhance our existing capacity,” he noted. Additionally, he revealed efforts are being made to rehire retired staff members to bolster the team.

“We are bringing back officers who may have retired after reaching 55 years of age,” he said.

Mr. Tunabuna stressed that this human resources challenge is not isolated to his ministry but affects other sectors as well.
