Two men charged with aggravated robbery had their case transferred back to Magistrate Court on Friday. Lagani Rabukawaqa and Saimoni Macedru appeared in Suva High Court before Justice Daniel Goundar, who directed that their plea and bail be heard by Magistrate Hettiwattage Somaratne.
Both men are facing a joint charge of aggravated robbery, stemming from an incident in December 2025, where they allegedly stole a watch and nine dollars in cash from a 50-year-old man at Top Shop in Raiwai, Suva.
During the court proceedings, Tobia Ravuiwa from the Legal Aid Commission represented Mr. Rabukawaqa and informed the court that bail had already been established for him. Mr. Ravuiwa also stated that his client has an alibi, with his sister ready to support his claim that he was home at the time of the alleged robbery.
Justice Goundar ordered that the accused remain in custody and that their bail application be taken up by Magistrate Somaratne. The case is set to be mentioned again on January 26. This development highlights the ongoing legal processes in handling robbery cases, showcasing the judicial system’s commitment to ensuring that all claims and defenses are fairly evaluated.
