Manaini Lesavua, a 32-year-old from Nawaka, Nadi, expressed her deep gratitude and emotions as she celebrated her graduation from the Fiji National University (FNU) College of Humanities, where she earned a Trade Diploma in Baking and Patisserie. With tears of joy, she reflected on her mother’s unwavering support, which played a crucial role in her educational journey while also caring for three other children under the age of ten.
Graduating among approximately 200 students at the Vodafone Arena in Laucala Bay, Suva, Ms. Lesavua held her three children close as she recounted the difficult path she navigated as both a full-time mother and a dedicated student. She shared her pride in her achievements and acknowledged that her father, though not present, would undoubtedly be proud of her accomplishments.
“My mother sacrificed so much to give me this opportunity,” she said. “This graduation is a testament to her hard work and dedication.” She emphasized the teamwork involved, crediting her husband for supporting her through household responsibilities, especially after the birth of their second child.
Currently working as a security officer with Wormald Fire and Security, Ms. Lesavua encourages resilience among young people. Looking to the future, she aspires to earn a bachelor’s degree in tourism and motivates her younger siblings to persevere, reminding them that “the sky is the limit.”
Despite the challenges of balancing her studies with motherhood, Ms. Lesavua remains hopeful and grateful for her support system, expressing that her graduation means everything to her. “I cannot wait to reach the goal I am pursuing right now, and with all the support I have, I am positive that I will be able to achieve it,” she stated with enthusiasm.
