A significant shift in the healthcare landscape of Fiji has emerged, with the nation’s public hospitals stepping forward to make medical services more affordable. Recently, Pacific Specialist Healthcare (PSH) Hospitals, located in Nadi, announced a reduction in GP consultation charges to $11.50 per patient for general consultations. For Fiji’s farmers, particularly the 10,500 registered sugarcane farmers, there is a special subsidized price of $7.50.
According to Parvish Kumar, founder and CEO of PSH Hospitals, the objective is to enhance the accessibility and affordability of medical services, not only for Fiji residents but for the broader Pacific community as well.
This announcement follows a similar move by Oceania Hospitals in Suva, which slashed its GP consultation fee by 50%, bringing it down to $17.50 for standard consultations, and $13.50 for patient reviews, down from a previous fee of $36.55. In their statement, Oceania Hospitals emphasized their commitment to providing healthcare that is within reach for all, while maintaining high standards of service.
To further assist those in financial need, PSH Hospitals plans to introduce flexible payment options for complex treatments. Kumar expressed his commitment to making advanced medical services more accessible and revealed that options would soon be available for patients who cannot afford costly medical procedures, potentially allowing them to receive treatment for free, subject to certain criteria.
Both hospitals are demonstrating a forward-thinking approach to healthcare in Fiji, showcasing not only their dedication to patient care but also a collaborative effort to enhance the wellness of the community. These initiatives could pave the way for a healthier population with fewer barriers to necessary medical care.
In a time where healthcare costs can be a significant burden, these reductions and innovative solutions present a hopeful outlook for residents, emphasizing the importance of prioritizing health and well-being across the region.
