A new local film titled ADI is gaining attention for its focus on the significance of traditional leadership, unity, and the resilience of the Vanua within the iTaukei communities. The 70-minute feature, crafted entirely in Na Vosa Vaka Viti, delves into life within a chiefly household, showcasing how community members and their leaders collaborate to foster peace, order, and unity.

Set to premiere on February 12, 2026, at Damodar City in Suva, ADI highlights the vital relationship between the people and their leaders, emphasizing their mutual dependence for survival and harmony. Sound Engineer Phil Dekei expressed his enthusiasm for the film, stating, “I am very happy to be part of this film. This film is a reminder of the importance of survival.” He also pointed out the effort made to incorporate traditional sounds and music, which help preserve the cultural essence depicted in the film.

Actress Salote Malani, who features in the film, noted that ADI reflects ongoing challenges communities face today, particularly in maintaining traditional values amid change. She described her character as an inspirational woman, and emphasized the importance of telling her story—a tale that resonates not only with women but with everyone who supports women’s roles in society. “Her example in the role helped me understand the need for us women to sometimes step up to the plate when we need to,” Malani added.

Moreover, ADI stands as a celebration of language and culture, authentically representing indigenous knowledge and tradition through its use of Na Vosa Vaka Viti. Malani remarked on the film’s ability to emphasize humanity and connection during difficult times, stating, “And that’s what life is all about from ADI’s lenses.”

The filmmakers hope that ADI will inspire conversations about leadership, cultural identity, and the community’s role in fostering peace. On the premiere night, doors will open from 6:10 PM to 6:30 PM at Damodar City Cinemas, with general admission tickets priced at $10, while VIP tickets will be available for $25.

With its rich cultural narrative and emphasis on community values, ADI promises to be a poignant contribution to the local film scene and a source of inspiration for many.
