Beyond the headline

Aarti Hooda will face New Zealand’s Emma Nesbitt in a high-stakes undercard clash billed the “Battle of Nations” at Vodafone Arena in Suva this Saturday, in what organisers say will be the lone female contest on the ZEG Boxing Promotion card and a major step up for the unbeaten Indian fighter.

The eight-round, two-minute-per-round minimum-weight bout pitches Hooda’s precision and ring IQ against Nesbitt’s heavy-handed power. Hooda, 4-0 with one knockout, has built momentum through international appearances that include prior success in Fiji and was pictured with fellow Indian boxers and India’s High Commissioner to Fiji, HE Shri Suneet Mehta, at the Indian High Commission in Suva on October 29, 2025. Promoter Nahroon Buksh has framed the match as a showcase bout, describing the pairing as a test for Hooda against a seasoned regional champion.

Nesbitt arrives in Suva as the clear favourite on paper. The 21-year-old is 12-1 with nine stoppages, holds two WBA Oceania titles across divisions and is ranked number two by the WBA in the light-flyweight division. She also claimed the WIBA World Light Flyweight crown in May 2025 and, most recently, stopped Banthita Pumkrathok via sixth-round technical knockout in Auckland on March 7, 2026. Her assorted global rankings include top-10 placings with the WBO, IBF, WBC and BoxRec, underlining the experience and credentials she brings to the matchup.

Both fighters have signalled they expect fireworks rather than a tactical chess match. In video promotions released for the event Hooda vowed, “It will be very intense from both sides, and the fight will last until the end,” adding directly to her opponent, “let’s see who has the strength.” Nesbitt responded in kind, predicting the bout would not go the distance and promising relentless pressure and entertainment for fight fans as she aims to extend her knockout record on debut in Fiji.

The matchup is being watched closely locally because it gives Fiji boxing fans a chance to measure a rising prospect who has impressed on these shores against a bona fide regional power. For Hooda, the fight represents the most significant challenge of her professional career; for Nesbitt, it is an opportunity to cement her regional dominance and maintain momentum toward world-level shots.

ZEG Boxing Promotion has scheduled several domestic and international undercard matchups for the event; Hooda versus Nesbitt is positioned as the headline female draw and a talking point for a night the promoters hope will draw regional attention. Coaches and officials present at Hooda’s October appearance in Suva — including coach Chandan Singh and manager Neeraj Redhu — have been vocal in backing Hooda’s technical strengths ahead of the test.

With both fighters publicly predicting a stoppage and regional bragging rights on the line, Saturday’s “Battle of Nations” promises to be the defining bout of the undercard and a key litmus test for Hooda’s progression up the professional ranks.
