Sashi Kiran, the newly appointed Minister for Women, Children, and Social Protection, has expressed her dedication to tackling the ongoing challenges facing society. During her swearing-in ceremony at the State House, she emphasized the importance of her role, stating, “This is a responsibility I take with the utmost humility, knowing that the work of this ministry touches the very heart of our nation—our families, our communities, and our future.”

Kiran began by recognizing the contributions of her predecessor, Lynda Tabuya, noting that her leadership has set a solid foundation for the ministry’s future endeavors. She extended her gratitude, saying, “Vinaka vakalevu—your efforts have paved the way for us to take this mission forward.”

The minister underscored that empowering women, protecting children, and supporting the vulnerable in society is a collective responsibility. “This ministry exists not just to administer policies but to advocate, to inspire change, and to ensure that no one in Fiji is left behind,” she remarked.

Highlighting the significance of women in society, Kiran stated that while they are the backbone of families and communities, many still face obstacles to equality, safety, and opportunity. She pledged to strengthen initiatives aimed at promoting women’s economic empowerment and ensuring gender equality, creating avenues for women to lead in various aspects of life.

Kiran also prioritized the welfare of children, declaring, “Our children are our greatest treasure.” She committed to focusing on their protection, education, and well-being, with efforts aimed at combating child abuse and supporting vulnerable families, ensuring that every child can thrive in a safe and hopeful environment.

Furthermore, she vowed to extend support to often-overlooked groups, such as the elderly and those living with disabilities. Kiran emphasized the importance of reviewing and enhancing social protection programs to ensure inclusivity and responsiveness to the needs of the population.

Overall, Kiran’s passionate commitment to her role and vision for a more equitable society highlights a hopeful future where vulnerable groups are empowered, protected, and given the opportunities they deserve.

This renewal of commitment to social betterment is not only promising for the future of Fiji’s most vulnerable but also paves the way for a more inclusive and supportive community. With strong leadership and collective action, significant improvements can be achieved, benefiting families and communities across the nation.
