Former diplomat and esteemed civil servant Filimone Kau has sadly passed away at the age of 63, as announced by his family. He died peacefully at his home in Nasinu on June 1. The news was confirmed by his daughter, Talei Kau, who expressed the family’s profound sorrow at the unexpected loss.

Filimone Kau was highly regarded for his dedicated service to Fiji over three decades. He began his career in 1989 as an information officer in the Ministry of Information, progressively advancing to significant roles including principal information officer, deputy permanent representative to the United Nations from 2003 to 2006, and ultimately serving as Fiji’s resident Ambassador to the Republic of Korea from 2012. Additionally, he held the post of Permanent Secretary for Lands and Mineral Resources.

Colleagues remembered Kau as a humble and principled individual, whose commitment to Fiji’s development made a lasting impact. He is survived by his wife, Selai, and their five children, who are mourning this significant loss.

His funeral is scheduled for Friday, reflecting on a life dedicated to public service and the profound legacy he leaves behind. The warmth and dedication he exhibited serve as an inspiring example for current and future generations in Fiji. In light of his contributions, it is hoped that Kau’s legacy will continue to motivate others to engage in public service and community development.
