Isimeli Tavo Labalaba celebrated his 42nd birthday in a remarkable way, as he witnessed a momentous occasion in his family’s life. On what he described as “the best gift ever,” his daughter, Francis Grace Siganisucu Labalaba, graduated with a Bachelor of Commerce in Banking and Management from the Fiji National University during a ceremony at the Vodafone Arena in Suva.
Adding to the joyous occasion, his wife Iliseva, aged 45, is set to graduate the following day with a Postgraduate Diploma in Nursing Leadership and Management. This milestone marks a significant achievement for the family, as both mother and daughter have reached significant educational accomplishments within the same timeframe.
Expressing her overwhelming pride, Ms. Labalaba said, “This is a milestone achievement for our family because we’ve always prayed and worked hard to see this day.” She reflected on their journey together, highlighting the crucial role of family support in their lives.
Francis, in turn, attributed her success to the unwavering encouragement she received from her family. “I can’t express how proud I am to be graduating with my mother,” she shared. Despite the challenges she faced, having her mother by her side made a significant difference in her academic journey.
The transition to a new campus due to her mother’s transfer to Aspen Medical Lautoka Hospital was a pivotal moment for Francis, allowing her to not only pursue her studies but also maintain the strong family bond they share. Now working in the Finance Department at Fiji Airports while her mother works as a mid-wife, both are looking toward a shared future filled with possibilities.
As the family prepares for a celebratory week, Ms. Labalaba emphasizes that their achievements are merely stepping stones toward greater success. “Success knows no age, so keep at it and study as much as you want,” she advised, underscoring the importance of lifelong learning and perseverance.
