FIJI GLOBAL NEWS

Beyond the headline

A southeasterly wind flow will dominate the weather across the Fiji group through tomorrow, bringing cloudy periods and showers to many eastern and northern districts, while most other areas remain mainly fine with typical afternoon or evening showers. Afternoon thunderstorms are likely about Viti Levu and Vanua Levu, and winds are expected to be moderate to fresh with seas moderate to rough.

Cloud and showers are most likely over Serua‑Namosi, Navua‑Suva‑Nausori, Tailevu‑Naitasiri‑Ra‑Rakiraki, southern Bua, Cakaudrove, Taveuni and nearby smaller islands, the Lau and Lomaiviti groups, Kadavu and surrounding islets. Elsewhere conditions should be largely fine apart from the usual late‑day showers. Thunderstorms may develop in the afternoons and evenings over Viti Levu and Vanua Levu, with some areas liable to heavier falls on Sunday.

Local conditions for the main centres: Navua, Suva and Nausori can expect cloudy periods with some showers and likely afternoon or evening thunderstorms, with temperatures about 24/32°C and an outlook for Sunday of showers and thunderstorms with heavy falls possible. Nadi, Lautoka and Ba are forecast fine apart from afternoon or evening showers with thunderstorms likely, around 23/33°C, while Sigatoka and the Coral Coast will be mostly fine with the chance of late showers and thunderstorms, near 24–32°C. Tavua and Rakiraki will see cloudy periods and some showers over Rakiraki with afternoon thunderstorms likely; temperatures about 23–33°C.

Northern and island groups will see similar patterns: Labasa, Savusavu, Nabouwalu and Taveuni have cloudy periods with showers and a risk of afternoon or evening thunderstorms (temperatures generally in the low‑to‑mid 20s for minima and around 32–34°C for maxima). The Yasawa and Mamanuca group should remain mostly fine apart from late showers, while Lau, Lomaiviti and Kadavu can expect cloudy periods with some showers and the chance of afternoon thunderstorms. Winds are predominantly southeasterly and fresh at times, producing moderate to rough sea conditions.

Rotuma is affected by a trough of low pressure and will have occasional showers with isolated thunderstorms, moderate northeasterly winds and moderate seas. Mariners and beachgoers should note the forecast of moderate to rough seas across the group and plan activities accordingly, and communities in the higher‑rainfall districts should be prepared for periods of heavier or stormy downpours particularly in the afternoons and evenings.
