The 2 Fresh men’s touch rugby team is expressing optimism about securing a spot in the top four following a notable performance at the recent Suva Touch Rugby Association tournament held at Furnival Park. The team demonstrated strong skills by winning three out of four matches, including impressive victories against City Roosters with scores of 15-0 and Fiji Correction at 13-0 in the mixed open category. In a closely contested men’s match, 2 Fresh drew 1-1 with Eastern Hawks but later defeated City Roosters again, this time with a score of 6-3.

Team treasurer and player Savenaca Vocea shared the squad’s aspirations, stating, “I think we’d be reaching the top four for both our categories. That puts us in a good position in the quarter-finals. Obviously, our target is to reach the finals and hopefully win the title.” Vocea, who has been a part of the club since 2017, emphasized the inclusive nature of touch rugby, noting that players range from 15 to around 41 years of age, fostering a familial atmosphere among teammates.

The team is also gearing up to defend their title at the upcoming One Love tournament in Nadi next month, which will highlight drug awareness and community outreach, showcasing their commitment to positive values through sport. Furthermore, the Suva Touch Rugby Association tournament acts as a selection platform for players vying to represent Suva in the prestigious Pacific Cup in New Zealand this November.

As the quarter-finals draw near, the excitement builds within the team and the community alike. This spirit of competition not only enhances team dynamics but also contributes to the longstanding tradition of touch rugby in Fiji, which plays a vital role in promoting youth engagement and healthy lifestyles.

With continued performance and dedication, 2 Fresh is not only aiming for success on the field but also inspiring the broader community by promoting fitness, teamwork, and positive social values through sport.
