The upcoming Suva Zone Two athletics competition is set to see an increase in participation, with more schools from the Navua and Sigatoka corridor expected to join the event next month. Dan Vakamocea, the president of Zone Two, has confirmed efforts to include a greater number of schools to elevate the competitive spirit. Presently, Zone Two consists of 14 schools, which is significantly fewer compared to Suva Zone One, which has over 20 participating institutions.

The decision to invite more schools will not only raise the quality of competition but also ensure a more comprehensive representation. Schools known for their athletic prowess, such as Marist Brothers High School and Suva Grammar School, typically excel within their zones. Vakamocea expressed optimism about possibly welcoming institutions like Namosi Secondary School and others from the Coral Coast region, highlighting the benefits of their participation. As he aptly put it, “It is better to have all those schools from the Coral Coast side coming over to join Suva Zone Two.”

Scheduled for March 18th and 19th at the HFC Bank Stadium, the Suva Zone Two athletics event aims to promote athleticism while fostering community engagement and pride in local schools’ achievements. The expected rise in participation is poised to spark inspiration among young athletes, encouraging skill development through heightened competition.

This inclusion strategy reflects broader trends in athletics within the region, as demonstrated by the recent uptick in participants reported in the Suva 1 district. The introduction of new schools signifies a growing dedication to athletics, paving the way for a vibrant and competitive setting. The forthcoming competition is not only about showcasing the talents of young athletes but also emphasizes inclusivity and community spirit, contributing to a supportive environment for developing future sports stars.
