The Ministry for Transport has announced that the Land Transport Authority (LTA) is taking a firm stance against reckless driving, implementing a zero-tolerance policy. As part of this initiative, the LTA has frozen the client IDs of 238 individuals pending show cause proceedings, a step aimed at enhancing road safety.
Minister for Public Works, Meteorological Services, and Transport, Ro Filipe Tuisawau, emphasized the authority’s commitment to road safety, stating that any blatant disregard for traffic regulations and human life will not be accepted. He highlighted that careless and reckless driving has led to a troubling increase in avoidable accidents, with many road fatalities linked to behavioral offenses.
Tuisawau pointed out that many individuals are choosing to drive while intoxicated and partaking in risky activities, putting their own lives and the lives of others in jeopardy. In a move to address the issue, the LTA has canceled 62 driver licenses and suspended an additional 26 since January, sending a strong message that such behavior will face serious consequences.
