The Land Transport Authority (LTA) has implemented a strict policy towards driving violations, summoning 238 drivers to explain why their licenses should not be revoked. This decisive action comes as part of efforts to enhance road safety, amid concerns over dangerous driving behaviors.

The licenses of these individuals are currently on hold while they prepare for hearings regarding their driving conduct. Ro Filipe Tuisawau, the Minister for Public Works, Meteorological Services, and Transport, highlighted the connection between behavioral offenses and road fatalities. He emphasized that instances of intoxicated driving and reckless behavior have been major contributors to threats on the road.

In 2023 alone, from January to December 17, the LTA has already canceled 62 licenses and suspended an additional 26, reinforcing their dedication to ensuring safety on the roads. The LTA has also shared the names of these suspended and canceled licenses with the Fiji Police to further bolster safety initiatives.

This proactive approach by the LTA signifies a broader commitment to creating a safer driving environment, ultimately aiming to protect both drivers and pedestrians. As such, this crackdown serves as a crucial reminder of the importance of responsible driving, fostering a culture where road safety is prioritized.

Summary: The Land Transport Authority (LTA) has summoned 238 drivers regarding potential license cancellations due to serious traffic offenses, demonstrating a strong stance on road safety issues. This step reflects the ongoing commitment to removing unsafe drivers from the roads and promoting responsible driving behavior.
