The Land Transport Authority (LTA) is taking a strong stance against traffic violations by summoning 238 drivers to explain why their licenses should not be revoked. This action comes as part of a broader campaign to enhance road safety and address the increasing incidence of dangerous driving behaviors.

Currently, the licenses of these drivers are frozen while hearings are conducted. Minister for Public Works, Meteorological Services and Transport, Ro Filipe Tuisawau, emphasized that many road fatalities stem from behavioral issues, particularly the dangerous choice of driving under the influence of alcohol and engaging in reckless driving which jeopardizes the lives of others.

The minister indicated that the LTA will not tolerate any disregard for safety measures or traffic laws and has already taken significant actions in the year, cancelling 62 licenses and suspending an additional 26 from January to mid-December. This commitment is a step towards ensuring safer roads for everyone, as the LTA collaborates with Fiji Police to address the issue of unfit drivers.

This proactive approach not only aims to deter dangerous driving but also fosters a culture of responsibility among drivers, contributing to overall traffic safety. As the LTA continues to take measures against those who harm public safety, it sets a hopeful precedent for reducing road incidents in the future.

In summary, the LTA’s decisive action aims to enhance road safety by addressing the behavioral aspects of driving that lead to accidents, reflecting a commitment to protecting the lives of all road users.
