Youths Lead Surge in Crime: A Growing Concern for Communities

Youths aged 18 to 35 were responsible for the majority of crimes reported last month. Acting Commissioner of Police Sakeo Raikaci revealed that a total of 838 individuals were charged with various offenses during this period. Among those charged, 48 were juveniles, while 486 offenders were aged between 18 and 35. Individuals aged 36 to 55 accounted for 266 charges, and 38 offenders were aged 56 and over.

“The ongoing involvement of juveniles in criminal activities is alarming, as it affects their education and future prospects,” stated ACP Sakeo. He emphasized the need for support from families and communities to help guide and mentor young people.

As the festive season approaches, the Fiji Police Force plans to enhance its operations and urges everyone to adhere to the law for safer communities.
