The Fiji Police Force reported that one of the juveniles was apprehended on New Year’s Day, with a second female student arrested shortly thereafter for possessing a plastic bag containing white crystals suspected to be methamphetamine.

The first student, a 17-year-old, was caught near Lami Village with a zip lock bag of dried leaves and five packets believed to contain marijuana. Meanwhile, a 16-year-old from Nauluvatu was arrested for having 11 sachets of what is also believed to be marijuana.

Other arrests included a 30-year-old baker from Wailea, a 42-year-old unemployed man from Qelewaqa Labasa, and a 35-year-old farmer from Kilikoso Labasa. On the second day of the year, a 35-year-old farmer from Nakoba Village was found with three sachets of marijuana, and a 32-year-old laborer was arrested for possessing nine sachets.

By the third day, police arrested four young men in Lautoka who were found with 48 sachets of dried leaves believed to be marijuana. A 24-year-old man from Nausori was also taken into custody for possessing two zip lock bags of methamphetamine.

Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations, Livai Driu, emphasized the continuous nature of drug arrests and expressed gratitude for community support. He highlighted the importance of collaboration with local leaders and community figures who are committed to safeguarding the youth from drugs.

The ongoing efforts in the fight against drug-related offenses signify a collective commitment to protecting the future of the younger generation in Fiji. With the support of community leaders and active participation from citizens, there is hope for a reduction in drug-related crime and its impact on families and communities moving forward.

This dedicated approach to community policing reflects a progressive stance against drug use and its related crimes, fostering a safer and more secure environment for all.
