An investigation is currently underway following alarming allegations that two individuals attempted to inject a minor with illicit drugs in Nausori. Assistant Commissioner of Police for Crime, Mesake Waqa, has assigned Crime Officer Nausori to lead the inquiry.
According to reports, the incident occurred when a 17-year-old boy was approached by two teenagers while taking a shortcut home through the Nausori tunnel. The assailants allegedly brandished a needle and tried to force the victim to use it, but their attempt was thwarted when a nearby group intervened.
The police urge anyone who may have witnessed suspicious behavior on Tuesday, April 22, 2025, between 4-5 PM to contact Crime Stoppers at 919. This investigation sheds light on pressing community concerns about youth safety, particularly in light of previous incidents highlighting the risks of drug-related activities among young people.
The Fiji Police have been increasingly vigilant about the dangers posed by drug culture, especially for students. Recent reports show a rise in drug-related incidents involving minors, prompting calls for greater community oversight and preventive measures. Initiatives are ongoing to create a safer environment for children, which underscores the importance of community involvement and collaboration with local authorities in safeguarding youth well-being.
While this situation is troubling, it also presents an opportunity for increased awareness and action within the community. Through such engagement, residents can play a significant role in protecting their children and fostering a healthier, safer atmosphere.
