The Fiji Rugby Union (FRU) has successfully secured the HFC Bank Stadium as the venue for the finals of the Vodafone Deans Trophy and Weet-Bix Raluve competitions, set for August 23. This significant announcement was made by Biu Colati, vice president for development of the Fiji Secondary Schools Rugby Union (FSSRU), during an interview. He expressed gratitude to the FRU for their essential support in engaging the Fiji Sports Council, enabling the approval for hosting these prestigious youth rugby finals.
Colati emphasized the strong relationship between the FSSRU and the FRU, noting that the latter acts as a pivotal ally when challenges arise in organizing events. This collaboration proved crucial in navigating earlier concerns that had emerged regarding venue availability, particularly after the Govind Park in Ba was ruled out due to prior bookings.
The Fiji Sports Council confirmed the decision through their official social media channels, with acting chief executive Gilbert Vakalalabure expressing optimism for the finals. This confirmation brings a sense of relief following uncertainties that had plagued the FSSRU in their search for a suitable location.
The significant attention on this year’s finals reflects the growing enthusiasm for rugby among Fiji’s youth and the community, which should create an electrifying atmosphere. Preparations are also underway for the national quarter-finals, scheduled to kick off this Saturday at Churchill Park in Lautoka and Prince Charles Park in Nadi.
Overall, this positive development not only marks a critical moment for youth rugby in Fiji but highlights the collaborative efforts among different organizations to ensure ongoing opportunities for young athletes. The excitement builds as fans and players alike look forward to celebrating their passion for rugby in a historic venue.
