Members of ASEZ WAO, a youth ministry affiliated with the World Mission Society Church of God, organized an impactful cleanup event at the Suva seawall, emphasizing the community’s commitment to environmental stewardship. The event took place yesterday, with youth leader Daniel Peter Lockington highlighting the necessity of raising awareness about crucial environmental issues, such as climate change and global warming.

Lockington stated, “We are conducting this event to raise awareness of environmental issues. For this campaign, we focused on the seawall as it is the heart of Suva, and keeping it clean is crucial.” This thoughtful approach aligns with ASEZ WAO’s overarching mission, which has seen the group actively working in Fiji since 2017 to inspire youth involvement in sustainable development initiatives.

A significant focus of ASEZ WAO’s efforts is to support and empower struggling youths, who may feel marginalized or influenced by negative activities. Lockington emphasized, “Our focus is on sharing the love of a mother, especially with struggling youths. If they experienced this love, they could overcome challenges and become part of a heavenly family.”

In addition to the cleanup, the group is also championing the importance of blood donation as part of their wider campaign activities. Recently, ASEZ WAO was joined by a delegation from South Korea, who plans to stay in Fiji for two weeks to further assist in these community efforts.

This initiative resonates with other recent community clean-up movements across Fiji, showcasing a growing trend among local organizations and groups to tackle environmental issues collectively. For instance, former inmates in Lautoka recently participated in a similar clean-up initiative, illustrating the potential for community members to come together for a common cause and create lasting positive change.

In summary, ASEZ WAO’s proactive cleanup at the Suva seawall not only aims to beautify the local environment, but also works to instill a sense of purpose and belonging among youth, highlighting the community’s collective responsibility in creating a sustainable future. Such initiatives are instrumental in fostering hope and resilience in the face of global environmental challenges.
