Former civil servant Apisai Caginakana Moce has announced his candidacy for the 2026 General Elections, representing the newly proposed NextGen Alliance Party. In a 25-minute Facebook video, Mr. Moce addressed his audience to share his vision for substantial change in Fiji, stating, “I would like to contest the 2026 General Elections because a lot of people are asking if I would be standing in the next elections.”
Mr. Moce emphasized the importance of young leadership in the political landscape, calling for support from the youth of Fiji. He expressed his commitment to challenge prominent political figures, noting that the formation of the NextGen Alliance Party is intended to give young people a voice in the government. “Listen up, youths of Fiji, this political party is yours because our opinion and our voice matters,” he stated.
The NextGen Alliance Party, which focuses on engaging younger audiences in politics, has begun the preliminary steps for its establishment. Mr. Moce stated that the party is currently in its initial stages but has already reserved a name with the Fiji Elections Office. “We have formally formed a proposed political party that will allow us to contest with the big guns.”
Mr. Moce, who has a strong background in forestry management and environmental sustainability, believes that the lack of youth representation at strategic government levels is a significant issue. “There is no young person holding a ministerial position in Government,” he lamented.
In a related announcement, the Fijian Elections Office has revealed that 14 new political parties are preparing to participate in the 2026 General Elections, reflecting a burgeoning interest in political engagement among Fijians. Figures like Mr. Moce, a local influencer advocating for youth involvement, underscore a growing desire for diverse representation within the country’s political framework.
This movement towards new political parties, including the NextGen Alliance, signals a potentially vibrant electoral landscape as Fiji heads into the elections. Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka has expressed optimism about this trend, viewing the emergence of various parties as a beneficial opportunity for citizens to witness diverse viewpoints and contribute meaningfully to the democratic process.
The proposed endeavors by emerging parties like the NextGen Alliance Party could foster greater political participation and accountability, promising a hopeful outlook for the future of governance in Fiji.
