A recent four-day festival in Savusavu successfully generated $48,000 aimed at supporting youth development projects. The Cakaudrove Multi-Ethnic Youth and Sports Festival, organized by the Cakaudrove Youth Council and the Ministry of Youth and Sports, brought together diverse communities to celebrate youth engagement and athletics.

Aubrey Whippy, the committee coordinator for the festival, highlighted the efforts of 14 queen contestants who collectively raised an impressive $30,716.15. The event saw enthusiastic participation, reflecting the community’s spirit and commitment to fostering the potential of its youth. He expressed gratitude towards the Minister for Youth and Sports, Jese Saukuru, and his team, including Northern Divisional Manager Walter Matalau, for their invaluable support and trust in the Cakaudrove Youth Council.

The highlight of the festival came with the crowning of Temalesi Tuiwalese as Miss Cakaudrove Youth at Narain Park. In discussing how the raised funds would be allocated, Whippy mentioned that further discussions would be held to determine investments and development projects, as well as operational costs, ensuring that the funds serve the community effectively.

Looking ahead, the committee is hopeful to expand the festival next year, with ambitions of including participation from all 15 districts and greater representation from various ethnic communities, such as the Indo-Fijian, Rabi, and Kioa groups. Whippy acknowledged the numerous sponsors and contributors who played a key role in making the inaugural event a success.

In a related contest, Rosi Toroca from Koroalau was recognized as Miss Charity, raising $7,612 for the cause.

This festival not only highlights the dedication of the local community towards youth development but also sets the stage for future events that promise to enhance cultural representation and collective growth. The engagement and support demonstrated are a positive indication of a vibrant and inclusive future for the Cakaudrove region.
