A recent four-day festival held in Savusavu successfully raised $48,000 to support youth development initiatives. The Cakaudrove Multi-Ethnic Youth and Sports Festival was organized in collaboration with the Cakaudrove Youth Council and the Ministry of Youth and Sports.
Aubrey Whippy, the coordinator of the festival committee, announced that the event’s 14 queen contestants managed to raise a significant $30,716.15. He expressed gratitude to Jese Saukuru, the Minister for Youth and Sports, and his team, including North Divisional Manager Walter Matalau, for their invaluable support and trust in the Cakaudrove Youth Council as they organized their inaugural carnival.
During the festival, Temalesi Tuiwalese, representing Vaturova, was crowned Miss Cakaudrove Youth at Narain Park. When discussing the allocation of the funds raised, Whippy stated that they would convene to determine how best to distribute the money for investments and developmental projects within Cakaudrove, as well as cover operational expenses.
Looking forward, Whippy shared plans for next year’s event to be even larger and more inclusive, with hopes of representing all 15 districts and increasing participation from diverse ethnic communities, including Indo-Fijians and those from Rabi and Kioa.
Additionally, Rosi Toroca from the district of Koroalau was honored as Miss Charity, having raised $7,612.
This festival not only raised essential funds for youth development but also fostered community spirit and cultural representation, promising a continued positive impact on the youth in the region.
Overall, this event represents a significant step forward for youth engagement and development in Cakaudrove, providing hope for a brighter future as they aim for an even more successful celebration next year.
