Youth Crime Surge Raises Alarm as Festive Season Approaches

Youths aged 18 to 35 were responsible for the majority of crimes reported last month, according to Acting Commissioner of Police Sakeo Raikaci. A total of 838 individuals faced charges for various offenses during the month. Among those charged, 48 were juveniles, while offenders aged 18 to 35 accounted for 486 cases. Offenders aged 36 to 55 totaled 266, and those aged 56 and older numbered 38.

Commissioner Raikaci expressed concern over the continued involvement of juveniles in criminal activities, emphasizing the negative impact on their education and future prospects. He called on families and communities to provide guidance and mentorship to the youth.

As the festive season approaches, the Fiji Police Force plans to intensify operations and urges the public to adhere to the law to ensure safer communities for everyone.
