Indian cricketer Vaibhav Suryavanshi has made history by becoming the youngest player to score a senior T20 century at just 14 years and 32 days. He achieved this milestone during a match in the IPL, helping the Rajasthan Royals successfully chase down a target against the Gujarat Titans.
Suryavanshi, a left-handed batsman, debuted in the IPL on April 19 and has already made a significant impact. He scored an explosive 100 runs off only 35 balls, striking seven fours and an impressive 11 sixes at Jaipur’s Sawai Mansingh Stadium. This remarkable achievement allowed him to surpass the previous record held by Vijay Zol, who hit a century at 18 years and 118 days in 2013.
His century also ranks as the second-fastest in IPL history, only behind Chris Gayle’s century scored in just 30 balls in 2013. After making his mark with the bat, Suryavanshi was dismissed by fast bowler Prasidh Krishna, concluding his innings at 101 runs off 38 deliveries, to a standing ovation from the crowd.
Following the match, Suryavanshi expressed his thrill at scoring a century, describing the experience as like a dream. He has shown remarkable confidence in facing top-tier bowlers, emphasizing that he feels “no fear.” He was acquired by the Rajasthan Royals for around $130,500 at the previous auction, when he was just 13 years old.
In addition to Suryavanshi’s performance, his partnership with Yashasvi Jaiswal, which yielded a staggering 166 runs, was pivotal in the Royals’ chase of 210 runs. Jaiswal contributed with an unbeaten 70 runs, while Riyan Parag aided the team’s victory with a quickfire 32 runs, helping Rajasthan clinch the match with eight wickets in hand and 25 balls left.
Suryavanshi’s performance diverted attention from a strong showing by Gujarat, where captain Shubman Gill scored 84 runs and Jos Buttler added an unbeaten 50. Despite Gujarat posting a commendable total of 209 runs, Suryavanshi’s explosive innings overshadowed their efforts.
