The Caginitoba men’s sevens rugby team has made their third appearance at the Mick’s Fiji Tours & Transfers Vatulele 7s tournament, taking place on the island of Vatulele. This year, the tournament features 24 teams competing at the Vatulele District School grounds, with matches beginning yesterday and concluding today.

In a recent interview, team manager Navoliyani Draunimasi shared insights about the team’s preparations leading up to the event. Despite limited resources, having only one trainer based in the village, the team has focused on rigorous training sessions to prepare for the competition.

Draunimasi emphasized that this tournament is vital for the young players, as it provides a platform for them to enhance their knowledge and skills in rugby. He remarked, “This is their third time taking part and they are quite young. I believe when they participate in more tournaments, their level of play will increase.”

The manager also expressed gratitude for the support from their families and fans back in Yasawa, noting that they are backed by overseas sponsors as well as the Momo na Ratu na Tui Naviti.

This participation not only allows the young players to gain invaluable experience but also fosters community spirit and resilience, paving the way for future growth in their rugby careers. As they continue to compete, the potential for improvement and talent development within the Yasawa region remains bright.

In summary, the Caginitoba team’s journey in this tournament highlights the importance of grassroots sports in fostering talent and community support, providing encouragement for young athletes in the region to pursue their aspirations.
