Ethan John, an enthusiastic swimmer from the Seals Swimming Club, is making waves in the Fiji Swimming Age National competition held at the Damodar Aquatic Centre in Laucala Bay. In just three short years, this young athlete has already claimed second place in two events and secured a commendable third in the competitive 50m butterfly race.

Originally aspiring to be a rugby player, Ethan’s mother discouraged him from pursuing the sport due to safety concerns. Instead, he found solace and passion in swimming, a decision that has shaped his young athletic career. “My mom never allowed me to play rugby, but she always allowed me to swim,” Ethan reflected.

Currently a student at Central High School, Ethan faces the challenge of balancing a rigorous academic life with his training for swimming. “Since I am in school, I have a hard time balancing these two,” he stated candidly. When faced with challenges, Ethan turns to his faith for support. “Whenever I’m struggling, I ask the Lord for guidance,” he shared.

Ethan’s journey in swimming is not solely about personal accolades; he is driven by a desire to make his family proud and to inspire others. He emphasizes an encouraging message for aspiring swimmers: “For those thinking about swimming, remember it’s mind over matter. If you set your mind to it, you can achieve anything.”

In a world where discipline and commitment pave the way for success, Ethan John’s story serves as a reminder of the power of determination and faith. His achievements at such a young age indicate a promising future not just for him, but for the sport of swimming in Fiji.

This inspiring tale highlights how with passion and perseverance, young athletes can overcome obstacles and achieve their dreams, encouraging a new generation to follow in Ethan’s footsteps.
