Young Swimmer Ethan John Shines at National Competition

Ethan John, a dedicated swimmer with the Seals Swimming Club, has been making significant strides in the Fiji Swimming Age National competition held at the Damodar Aquatic Centre in Laucala Bay. In just three years of competitive swimming, Ethan has achieved impressive results, securing second place in two events and earning third place in the 50-meter butterfly race.

Initially interested in rugby, Ethan switched his focus to swimming due to his mother’s concerns about the risks associated with the sport. This move has turned out to be a fortunate decision for him, as he has developed a strong passion for swimming. “My mom never allowed me to play rugby, but she always allowed me to swim,” Ethan explained, indicating how this choice has shaped his current path.

Currently attending Central High School, Ethan manages a busy academic schedule alongside his training. He admits finding a balance between school and swimming can be challenging. “Since I am in school, I have a hard time balancing these two,” he shared.

When faced with difficulties, Ethan seeks support through his faith. “Whenever I’m struggling, I ask the Lord for guidance,” he stated. His commitment to swimming transcends personal achievement; he aims to make his family proud and inspire others with his journey. “For those thinking about swimming, remember it’s mind over matter. If you set your mind to it, you can achieve anything,” he encourages.
