Lilian Amazon Women’s 7s head coach Tirani Uluinakauvadra has expressed immense pride in three of their players who have earned spots on the Fijiana team for the upcoming Dubai Sevens tournament, scheduled to take place next Friday through Sunday.
The selected players include 18-year-old Mere Vocevoce, likely the youngest member of the Fijiana squad, alongside 19-year-old Kelerayani Luvu, who recently celebrated her birthday, and fellow 19-year-old Varanisese Qoro. Uluinakauvadra praised their accomplishments, stating that the young athletes’ selection reflects the dedication of the Lilian Amazon team.
“We are very proud to have these three girls represent Fiji at the Dubai 7s,” Uluinakauvadra said. “It highlights the commitment and effort we’ve put into our development program over the last three years. We wish them all the best, and the entire Lilian family will be supporting them in Dubai.”
While the loss of these three key players poses a challenge for the Lilian Amazon team’s ambitions, particularly in local tournaments, Uluinakauvadra emphasized the importance of prioritizing national representation. “It affects us when we lose players, especially as we aim to win the local 7s series. However, we have reset our objectives. When the nation calls, we prioritize the national team over local victories,” he explained.
This selection not only showcases the talent emerging from the Lilian Amazon team but also underscores the positive impact of their comprehensive training program. Fans and supporters can take heart knowing that these young players are stepping onto an international stage, driven by their commitment and hard work.
Overall, this event represents an opportunity for growth and recognition for both the athletes and the team, fostering a promising future for women’s rugby in Fiji.
