Fariza Ali, a standout student at Labasa Muslim Primary School, took inspiration from the renowned physicist Albert Einstein to fuel her academic ambitions. The 14-year-old, who received an impressive score of 461 out of 500 in her Year 8 exams during the annual prizegiving ceremony last Thursday, is already setting her sights on further success in the coming year.
Fariza has enrolled at Labasa College with aspirations to become a dentist and earn honorary doctorate degrees in science, medicine, and philosophy—following in the footsteps of the late Einstein. Proudly sharing her family background, she highlighted her four siblings who have carved out successful careers as a police officer, a doctor, a clerical officer, and a student at Fiji National University.
“My family’s achievements have made my parents proud, and it’s my goal to become the first dentist in our family to make them even happier,” Fariza expressed. She acknowledged the support of her parents, Tajmoon Nisha and Ashmat Ali, in raising their five children despite the challenges of managing a household on her father’s single income as a manager at Tebara Halal Meats Limited in Labasa.
In a testament to her values, Fariza mentioned, “Being the youngest, I have what I need, but I believe in using my freedom wisely. My parents have always taught me the importance of hard work, and I feel fortunate to have the opportunity to pursue education and choose my desired profession.”
Labasa Muslim Primary School’s manager, Aiyub Khan, confirmed that the school is open for enrolment for the upcoming academic year, ensuring that any student without placement elsewhere will have the opportunity to attend.
