Gurneet Kaur, the head girl of Waiqele Primary School, has achieved an impressive milestone by becoming the dux for Year Eight. She excelled in her studies, earning the highest scores in both her annual examination and the Fiji Eighth Year Examination (FEYE), achieving a remarkable 526 marks out of a possible 600.

At just 13 years old, Gurneet hails from Kawakawa Settlement and is the youngest of three siblings. Her dedication to her education is evident, as she has consistently ranked first in her class since Year One. Gurneet has her sights set on becoming the first doctor in her family, driven by a desire to provide immediate medical care to her community, where many often travel great distances for healthcare services.

Reflecting on her ambition, Gurneet expressed, “I studied day and late into the night, including weekends,” emphasizing her commitment to achieving her goals. She aims to alleviate the challenges faced by individuals in her community, particularly concerning health issues such as diabetes, which can lead to severe complications if not addressed promptly.

Grateful for the support of her parents and teachers, she views her accomplishment not only as a personal achievement but also as an inspiration for others. Gurneet hopes to demonstrate that students from all backgrounds have the potential to excel academically and contribute positively to their communities.
