Gurneet Kaur, the head girl of Waiqele Primary School, has proudly achieved her goal of becoming the dux of Year Eight. She distinguished herself by scoring the highest marks in the annual examination and the Fiji Eighth Year Examination (FEYE), tallying an impressive 526 out of a possible 600 marks at her school in Labasa.

At just 13 years old and hailing from Kawakawa Settlement as the youngest of three siblings, Gurneet’s dedication is commendable. She has expressed her aspiration of becoming the first doctor in her family, a goal she has been working towards since Year One, consistently ranking first in her class.

Gurneet’s ambition to pursue a medical career is fueled by her desire to improve healthcare accessibility for her community. Having observed the challenges faced by her neighbors, who must often travel great distances to receive medical care, she is determined to provide immediate assistance and address health issues, particularly those related to diabetes.
