Gurneet Kaur, the head girl of Waiqele Primary School, has proudly achieved her aim of becoming the dux of Year Eight. Scoring an impressive 526 out of 600 in the Fiji Eighth Year Examination (FEYE), Gurneet’s success in both the annual exam and FEYE showcases her dedication and hard work.
Hailing from Kawakawa Settlement and being the youngest of three siblings, Gurneet attributes her academic success to her rigorous study habits. “I studied day and late into the night, including weekends because my aim is to become the first doctor in my family,” she shared. Her determination has seen her at the top of her class since Year One, with aspirations to enter the medical field inspired by witnessing the challenges her community faces in accessing healthcare.
“I want to help my people by providing immediate medical care when needed,” Gurneet explained, expressing her desire to alleviate health risks prevalent in her settlement. With an older sister who is a teacher and a brother studying engineering, Gurneet’s family supports her ambitions wholeheartedly.
She takes pride in her rural origins and aims to inspire her peers, demonstrating that excellence in education is attainable regardless of one’s school background. Gurneet’s story is not just one of personal achievement but also of community commitment, reminding us that future leaders can emerge from any setting.
Overall, her journey serves as a beacon of hope, reinforcing the message that perseverance and dedication can lead to significant positive change in both individual lives and the broader community.
