Nineteen-year-old Jordan Miller had an unexpected journey back to Fiji after first visiting the country with the Australian schoolboys in 2022. Now, two years later, he has achieved a significant milestone in his rugby league career by joining the Vodafone Fiji Bati team.
Miller, a towering prop with Australian roots and Fijian heritage from his father, expressed his excitement about training alongside senior players and professional NRL athletes he admired while growing up, such as Tui Kamikamica, Maika Sivo, and Viliame Kikau.
Grateful for the opportunity provided by coach Waisake Kativerata, Miller made his debut for the Bati, starting from the bench. “I’ve always wanted to play for Fiji,” he shared. He described the experience as surreal, stating, “Training with these big names is pretty crazy. I didn’t think it would come this early, but I’m grateful for the opportunity.”
Miller has embraced the team’s culture and camaraderie over the past week, noting that the camp is filled with energy and enjoyment, highlighted by devotion sessions held twice a day.
In addition to his national team debut, Miller signed a three-year contract with the Tigers this year and made his NRL debut in Round 15 against the Titans, where the Tigers secured an 18-10 victory. His impressive performance was recognized in 2022 when he received the player’s player and best and fairest awards during the Wests Magpies Harold Matthews Cup U17s Junior Representative Award night.
